1st Movement:
Sorrow, Mourning, & The Long Journey Sayadio is sad. His sister has departed to the Land of Souls, the Isle of the Blessed. He spends a long time with his hands on top of his head bent to the ground in the deepest dejection. One night, while mourning his loss, his “manito” (good spirit) hints to him that he is permitted to go to the Land of Souls and greet his sister. He wants to bring her back somehow. On the long, hard journey, he meets an old man who gives him a “magic cup” to scoop up his sister’s spirit and bring her back. As he enters the Land of Souls the spirits, his sister among them, flee from him. |
2nd Movement:
Reverie Alone, Sayadio, laments, remembering how they use to play as children. (games, playfully dancing with him affectionately, etc.) Full mp3 Selections |
3rd Movement:
Dance of the Souls & Finale Sayadio searches for his sister and sees the dance of the souls. The dance is light, elegant and airy like a Japanese fan dance and simple like fireflies dancing. This can be a pantomime with hands, heads etc. He watches and plots to snatch his sister’s soul with his magic cup and return with her to the mortal world. He succeeds. Now, in the mortal world, a ceremony is planned but someone opens the cup and his sister’s soul escapes forever to the Land of Souls, Isle of the Blessed. Once again he is sad, his hands on top of his head bent to the ground in the deepest dejection. |
